Pennsylvania To Launch “PA CareerLink® Day” On Aug. 12 To Connect Workers With Businesses Looking To Hire
With the commonwealth continuing a strong economic comeback from the pandemic and businesses looking to hire, Labor & Industry Secretary Jennifer Berrier announced a statewide PA CareerLink® Day on Aug. 12.
This is a special opportunity for people looking for a job to visit their local PA CareerLinks® and take advantage of job fairs, open houses, employer talks, and other free activities that connect job seekers with employers trying to expand their workforce.
"Right now, with our commonwealth on a comeback and our economy strengthening, many employers are looking to connect with Pennsylvanians who are seeking to join the workforce," said Secretary Berrier. "PA CareerLinks® are home to a wealth of resources for jobseekers every day of the year. On August 12, local PA CareerLinks® will showcase some of their best resources while giving people looking for work an opportunity to visit their local PA CareerLink® office, meet employers and workforce development experts, and learn more about the free support services available to them during their job hunt."
Activities being offered by PA CareerLinks® will vary by location and include:
- Career fairs
- Resume workshops
- Mock interviews
- Training and resource booths
- Open houses
- Employer talks and panels
A full list is available here. Most locations will have employers who are actively recruiting workers on-site and individuals are encouraged to bring their resumes.
With federal unemployment benefit programs, including Pandemic Unemployment Assistance, Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation, and Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation, set to end Sept. 4, individuals enrolled in these programs are urged to attend a PA CareerLink® Day event to receive help finding employment before the programs end.
Individuals currently receiving unemployment benefits are especially encouraged to attend their local PA CareerLink® Day event. Attendance at most PA CareerLink® Day counts as a weekly work search activity for unemployment benefits.
Launched in July 2012, PA CareerLink® is part of the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry's initiative to transform the landscape of how job seekers find family sustaining jobs and how employers find the skilled candidates that they need, by serving as a one-stop shop for many related services.
