Webinar: Protecting Your State UI Program in 2014: Responding to Likely Challenges
The National Employment Law Project (NELP) will be hosting a webinar entitled, Protecting Your State UI Program in 2014: Responding to Likely Challenges, on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 2:00 pm Eastern.
Despite the slow economic recovery, dozens of states have proposed or enacted laws that chip away at the basic state programs of unemployment benefits in recent years. The changes and proposals have included cuts to the duration of benefits, reductions in weekly benefit amounts, restrictions in eligibility, and even barriers to filing unemployment claims. This webinar will introduce the 2014 edition of NELP’s UI Advocates’ Toolkit and equip worker advocates with information needed to evaluate restrictive legislative proposals and protect state UI programs.
In this webinar the presenters will cover:
- Highlights of our newly released 2014 edition of the UI Advocates’ Toolkit featuring new topics like misconduct and work-sharing, and updated fact sheets on drug testing, work search, and business climate
- Review of UI legislative proposals and laws passed in 2013
- Detailed discussion of the most common benefit access and eligibility proposals including drug testing, mandatory community service/training, and worker misconduct rules
- A policy advocate’s experience with a large reform bill and the strategies used to fight it including media, social media, and outreach strategies
Presenters include:
- Rick McHugh, Senior Staff Attorney, NELP
- Rebecca Dixon, Policy Analyst NELP
- Alexandra Sirota, Director, NC Budget and Tax Center
All webinar registrants will get access to the newly released 2014 UI Advocates’ Toolkit.
