This 90-minute webinar will be the second in a series of five webinars addressing different topics important to those working with immigrant survivors. Attendance at the first webinar in the series is not required for participation in this webinar, which will discuss the significant impact of early screening of immigration remedies for immigrant survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault, as well as the impact of helping begin the process of applying for legal immigration status as a VAWA-self-petitioner or U-visa applicant on improving outcomes in custody disputes.
This webinar will help attorneys representing immigrant survivors in custody litigation that occurs as part of a protection order proceeding, a divorce, or custody case. Participants will learn effective strategies to respond to immigration issues raised by perpetrators in contested custody cases.
This is an interactive webinar in which attendees will be encouraged to participate and ask questions. Training materials include court decisions, strategies for improving custody of children for battered immigrants, and screening tools to keep survivors safe, as well as identify and prepare VAWA and U-visa cases.
