Secretary of Aging Brian Duke today praised attorneys who are working to protect older adults across Pennsylvania.

The attorneys were taking part in a course that teaches them the skills needed to help older Pennsylvanians who need legal help.

The solicitor training course is presented by the department’s Institute on Protective Services and Temple University’s Beasley School of Law. The training is designed for county solicitors and Area Agencies on Aging attorneys.

The Institute on Protective Services is a collaboration between the department and Temple University to provide training and investigative consultation to the Area Agencies on Aging and local law enforcement.

“We are committed to providing training for legal professionals who protect older Pennsylvanians,” Secretary of Aging Brian Duke said. “With the help of these attorneys who support local protective services programs, I feel confident that older adults who are abused, neglected and exploited have the
representation and protection they need. I thank them for their dedication to the aging network."

The Department of Aging is responsible for monitoring services that protect older Pennsylvanians against fraud, abuse, neglect, exploitation and abandonment.

The Department of Aging partners with the commonwealth’s 52 Area Agencies on Aging to provide coordinated services at the local level.
