PBI Offers Free Ethics CLE Program on Conduct in Juvenile Justice Cases
The Pennsylvania Bar Institute will be offering a free CLE program entitled Errant Judges and Lawyers: What to Do? on June 16, 2011 from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. This program will be offered live in Mechanicsburg and via simulcast to seven locations across the Commonwealth.
The recent juvenile justice scandal that rocked the Courts of Luzerne County sent tremors throughout the Commonwealth and undermined the public's confidence in the legal system's ability to police its own. In response, the Interbranch Commission on Juvenile Justice was created to investigate the situation in Luzerne County and make recommendations on what can be done to improve the administration of juvenile justice throughout the State.
In May 2010, the Commission released its report and recommendations. PA Bar Association President Gretchen Mundorff has since created a PBA Task Force to study the Interbranch Commission Report and put forth concrete ways in which those recommendations can be implemented.
The Task Force CLE Subcommittee has designed a free day-long program to address the responsibilities of members of the bar and officers of the court. This program highlight what each of us can do to restore the confidence and faith of the people of Pennsylvania in their bar and judiciary.
The Pennsylvania Bar Institute is pleased to offer this tuition-free program to underscore its commitment to repairing the damage done to our judicial system by the actions of a few.
The program will cover the following topics:
- The Interbranch Commission Task Force recommendations
- The Code of Judicial Conduct, Rules of Professional Conduct and the requirements for judges and lawyers to report misconduct by judges and lawyers

- The Court of Judicial Discipline, its operation and procedures
- The Juvenile Act and the Rules of Juvenile Court Procedures
- The Disciplinary Board, its reports procedures and operations
