PALawHELP.org Offers Free Tax Information and Resources

PALawHELP.orgWith millions of low-income Americans still not claiming potential tax credits, PALawHELP.org offers critical assistance to ensure that Pennsylvania residents don’t miss out on a possible refund check. PALawHELP.org, part of the national LawHelp.org network of nonprofit legal information portals, offers a variety of free tools and information for those grappling with tax preparation.

More than 26 million eligible taxpayers received a total of nearly $59 billion last year from the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), according to the IRS. Yet an estimated one out of five eligible taxpayers doesn’t take advantage of the EITC.

Resources accessible from PALawHELP.org include easy-to-understand information about the EITC and other rebates and credits, as well as other information about state and federal taxes; links to sites offering free tax filing; referrals to organizations that offer free or low-cost help; information on avoiding tax scams; information for those facing special circumstances and more. 

Pennsylvania I-CAN! E-FileThe site provides information and  a link to a free electronic filing system known as I-CAN!® E-FileI-CAN!® E-File was created by a non-profit organization, the Legal Aid Society of Orange County (LASOC), as a tool to help those eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit and other tax credits file their taxes without being charged excessive fees. I-CAN!® E-File is funded by the Legal Service Corporation and other non-profit organizations.

I-CAN!® E-File is an online system that can help you prepare and E-File your taxes. Just answer simple questions on each screen and I-CAN!® E-File will complete your tax return. Using I-CAN!® E-File you can prepare and E-File your federal return for FREE.

When you prepare your federal return, I-CAN!® E-File can also help you prepare your state return if you lived and worked all year in Pennsylvania or in one of the other participating state: California, Michigan, Montana, or New York. I-CAN!® E-File also supports Alaskan resident's dividends. You can always print and E-File your state return for FREE along with your federal return.
