Opportunities Available to Law Students in the Equal Justice Works Americorps JD Program

The Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps JD program is currently accepting applictions from eligible law students for its Summer Start term. Applications for the Summer Start term must be submitted by June 1, 2015 with a start date between May 1 and June 30.

The Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps JD program provides law students with the opportunity to deliver critically needed legal assistance in low-income and underserved communities across the country.

AmeriCorps JD provides a life changing experience for its members. The program provides law students with hands-on experience and an opportunity to make a difference in communities that need help the most.

PROGRAM DETAILS

Supported by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps JD program provides all types of civil legal assistance. Members mainly focus their service on Equal Justice Works' priority areas, which include removing barriers to employment and housing, serving the legal needs of veterans, and providing disaster relief.

WHO SERVES IN AMERICORPS JD

AmeriCorps JD Members are students enrolled at Equal Justice Works' member law schools, who serve at a variety of organizations. Qualifying organizations include those that host Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps Legal Fellows or privately-funded Equal Justice Works Fellows (click here for a list of current Fellows and host organizations), those that are funded by the Legal Services Corporation, State Offices of Veterans Affairs, and Veterans Treatment Courts.

AmeriCorps JD participants receive an Eli Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $1,212, which can be applied toward student loans or tuition. Please note that this award is not a cash stipend. AmeriCorps JD Members must adhere to strict guidelines regarding outside funding. Accepted members must complete their required 300 hours of service by August 31 in order to receive the Eli Segal Education award.
