"FRAUD: How to Protect Yourself" Workshop to be Presented in Philadelphia on June 11

The Federal Trade Commission, City of Philadelphia, and Office of Councilwoman Quiñones-Sánchez will be presenting a workshop entitled, FRAUD: How to Protect Yourself, on Saturday, June 11, 2011 from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm at the Cardinal Bevilacqua Community Center, 2646 Kensington Ave, Philadelphia, PA.

Get the information you need to protect yourself from common scams and fraud targeting immigrants and others with limited English proficiency.

Presentations will cover hot topics including:

  • "Notarios" and other unlicensed practitioners of law
  • How to get reliable assistance with immigration and public benefits
  • Consumer and lending fraud
  • House-buying and deed/title fraud
  • Keeping your home safe from theft

Representatives from City agencies, community organizations, and nonprofit legal services organizations will be available to answer questions and provide information. Partner organizations include: Office of Councilwoman Sanchez, City of Philadelphia Department of Records, City of Philadelphia Department of Licenses and Inspections, Federal Trade Commission, American Immigration Lawyers Association, Ceiba, Friends of Farmworkers, Philly VIP, SeniorLaw Center, Regional Housing Legal Services, and more.

Spanish and Vietnamese translators will be provided by the City of Philadelphia. Translation for additional languages can be arranged upon request.
