A Celebration of the Life and Work of Karen Detamore, former Executive Director of Friends of Farmworkers, Inc., will be held on Saturday June 16, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at The Friends Center, 1501 Cherry Street, Philadelphia, PA.

Karen Detamore, Executive Director of the Friends of Farmworkers from 1989 to 2009, died Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at her home in West Philadelphia. See Philadelphia Inquirer Obituary, May 9, 2012.

Karen dedicated much of her professional life to improving the living and working conditions of farm workers and mushroom workers.

Karen was honored by the Pennsylvania Bar Association with the Everyday Leader Award in 2006.

In 2009 she was awarded the Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network Excellence Award. The 2009 video prepared by the Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network saluting Karen Detamore's work is available on a web page dedicated to her at this link.

Karen was a member of the Philadelphia Bar Association's Board of Governors and has previously co-chaired the Committee on the Legal Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
