Advocacy Exchange: Tax Law for Legal Aid Lawyers

Shriver Center logoThe Clearinghouse Community, part of the Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law, will be holding the October episode of the Advocacy Exchange webcast, entitled Tax Law for Legal Aid Lawyers, on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm Eastern. The Advocacy Exchange is a monthly conversation hosted by the Clearinghouse Community with advocates advancing change.

Tax law is probably not the first legal specialty to come to mind when you think of poverty law practice, but tax questions pop up frequently in legal aid offices, particularly in family law, debt, and social security cases. What does a non-tax lawyer need to know about tax law for legal aid clients?

The guest in this episode will be John Young, a senior attorney at the Legal Aid Society in Louisville, Kentucky, and head of its Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic to discuss some of the most common tax questions that arise in legal aid practice.

And be sure to read John Young’s new Clearinghouse article, Tax Law 101 for the Legal Aid Practitioner
