Webinar: Understanding the Civil Legal Assistance Attorney Student Loan Repayment Program
Equal Justice Works will be holding a free webinar designed for currently licensed civil legal assistance attorneys to provide details about the Civil Legal Assistance Attorney Student Loan Repayment Program (CLAAP) . The webinar will be presented on June 17, 2010 and July 7, 2010 at 12:00 pm Eastern.
Five million dollars is now available for distribution under this program to qualified civil legal assistance attorneys with federal student loan debt. Applications are expected to be due by August 16, 2010, and the Department of Education will commit these funds on a first-come, first-served basis.
CLAAP includes an Ineligibility for Double Benefits Provision that complicates matters. It is especially important that attorneys expecting to earn substantial Public Service Loan Forgiveness benefits under the College Cost Reduction and Access Act carefully consider the pros and cons of receiving CLAAP benefits.
The 60 minute session includes time dedicated to questions and answers. From this interactive webinar, you will learn (and be able to ask questions) about:
- what you need to consider about the Ineligibility for Double Benefits Provision,
- how to apply for CLAAP, and
- information about efforts to secure ongoing funding.
The webinar will be presented by Heather Jarvis, Senior Program Manager, Law School Advocacy and Outreach, Equal Justice Works.
