Addressing Client Immigration Enforcement Concerns (Webinar)

Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network, Inc. has scheduled a virtual training, entitled  Addressing Client Immigration Enforcement Concerns on Monday, March 10, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM Eastern.

Immigrant clients are coming to us with concerns over the increased arrests, detention, and deportations promised by the new administration. This session will provide “Know Your Rights” guidance that legal services advocates can share with their immigrant clients to prepare them for possible encounters with ICE or other immigration agents at their homes, their workplace, or at court houses and probation offices.

While LSC funded programs are not permitted to represent undocumented immigrants – those most at risk of being detained – lawfully present immigrants, too, are potentially at risk of being arrested and detained, notwithstanding their lawful immigration status.  The program will also provide guidance on what Legal Services advocates can do to protect their immigrant clients should ICE come to your office seeking information about them.

Heightened fear of being reported to ICE may cause some clients to avoid applying for public benefits to which they or family members may be entitled. The program will discuss, in a general way, the Department of Human Services policy on non-disclosure of client information to immigration officials, and the so-called “public charge” policy.
