Effectively Communicating About Civil Legal Aid (Webinar)

Research-based Principles of Persuasive Messaging about Civil Legal Aid & Effective Story Telling using Client Examples

Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network, Inc. will be presenting a webinar entitled Effectively Communicating About Civil Legal Aid:  Research-based Principles of Persuasive Messaging about Civil Legal Aid & Effective Story Telling using Client Examples on Friday, January 11, 2019 from 3:00 PM-4:00 PM.

Voices for Civil Justice Executive Director Martha Bergmark will lead participants through the results of the latest public opinion research about the civil justice system, as well as the fundamental principles of persuasive messaging, and what it all means for how we should talk about civil legal aid and civil justice reform.

Starting in 2013, Voices for Civil Justice (www.voicesforciviljustice.org) commissioned several rounds of public opinion research on civil legal aid and the civil justice system. This hour-long CLE webinar will focus on highlights of the report of Voices’ 2017 messaging research, Building a Civil Justice System that Delivers Justice for All and include and ethical discussion on effective storytelling and obtaining client permissions to be included in media advocacy.

Since launching five years ago, Voices for Civil Justice has had a hand in more than 450 media pieces and shifted the tone of coverage – from the hopelessness of budget cuts and overwhelming demand to the innovative and effective ways the civil legal aid sector is ensuring equal justice under the law.

This CLE training is the first in the Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network’s  exciting new initiative, Pennsylvania Voices, provides the infrastructure for a coordinated statewide approach to media advocacy. We work in close partnership with our national counterpart, Voices for Civil Justice, to drive a steady drumbeat of media coverage about what civil legal aid is, why it matters, and why it deserves more support nationally and in Pennsylvania.

Caitlin Brown, CLS Communications Director, and, Christine Kirby, PLAN Director of Advancement & Statewide Support will provide an overview of best practices in legal aid communication efforts and ethical considerations in sharing client stories.

The entire Pennsylvania legal aid community is invited and encouraged to participate in this webinar and the Pennsylvania Voices initiative.

After registering for the webinar, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
