Celebrate Pro Bono - October 21-27, 2012
October 21-27, 2012 marks the 2012 National Pro Bono Celebration. This week has also been proclaimed Pro Bono Week in Pennsylvania by Governor Tom Corbett and the General Assembly.
The annual Celebration is a coordinated national effort to meet the ever-growing needs of this country's most vulnerable citizens by encouraging and supporting local efforts to expand the delivery of pro bono legal services, and by showcasing the great difference that pro bono lawyers make to the nation, its system of justice, its communities and, most of all, to the clients they serve.
Although national in breadth, the Celebration provides an opportunity for local legal associations across the country to take the next step in their efforts to provide high quality legal services to those living on the social margins.
Pennsylvania has been a national leader in the now four year old American Bar Association National Pro Bono Week celebration. Events have been taking place all across the Commonwealth throughout October to commemorate the National Celebration.
These include events to recruit attorneys into organized pro bono programs, training events to better equip those attorneys to handle the unique problems of low-income individuals, and recognition events celebrating and highlighting the great work done by pro bono attorneys on behalf of low-income clients.
The National Pro Bono Celebration has created a video quilt of stories that significantly impacted the lives of public interest advocates and their clients. Every day, lives are changed when our poorest and most vulnerable citizens gain access to the legal system. Contributions from Pennsylvania to that JUST Stories video quilt may be viewed at the link below. If you have a story to share, you can at it to the Just Stories video quilt by clicking here.
All attorneys are encouraged to participate in events in their communities and begin to appreciate the great personal fulfillment that comes with helping someone in need
