Webinar: A Beginner's Guide to Appealing the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Disaster Assistance Decision - Sept. 19

Pro Bono Net, in partnership with Legal Aid of Sonoma County and the Disaster Legal Assistance Collaborative is hosting the final installment of its series of free Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) appeals trainings, entitled A Beginner's Guide to Appealing the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Disaster Assistance Decision on September 19, 2023 at 2:00 PM.

Why You Should Attend: Disasters can strike unexpectedly at any time throughout the year, with the potential to cause significant and extensive damage. With the ongoing impact of climate change, the likelihood of such events occurring across the country is steadily increasing. When the President approves a federal major disaster declaration to supplement a state or territory's recovery:

  • People impacted by the disaster emergency have access to recovery assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
  • One of the most common challenges individuals encounter in the aftermath of a disaster is securing this federal disaster assistance. Many disaster survivors apply to access these FEMA funds, but they can be denied the assistance or not provided with enough to recover. People have a right to appeal, but only a small percentage do.
  • This training will cover the FEMA appeals process and provide guidance to attendees on using and adopting Pro Bono Net's FEMA appeals digital tool (www.femaappeals.org), to create, edit, and print an appeal letter.
