Governor Wolf Proclaims Oct 25-31 as 2020 Pro Bono Week in Pennsylvania
Governor Tom Wolf has issued a Proclamation proclaiming October 25-31, 2020, to be PRO BONO WEEK in Pennsylvania with the theme of Rising to Meet the Challenge: Pro Bono Response to COVID-19. The proclamation encourages all Pennsylvanians to recognize and appreciate the dedication and contributions of these law professionals to enhancing the lives of their clients, and to support pro bono legal work in their communities.
The Proclamation recognizes that National Pro Bono Week is being celebrated during that period and that the Pennsylvania Bar Association is joining with the American Bar Association to sponsor this October’s annual National Pro Bono Week celebration.
It recognizes the week as an opportunity to highlight the differences lawyers make in their communities and the good work Pennsylvania attorneys do for clients in need; to recruit and train more pro bono volunteers; and to acknowledge the partnerships that form the basis for many of the private bar's most successful pro bono efforts.
In acknowledgement of the the current difficult times, the proclamation recognizes that while the celebrations may look different than in years past and planning is difficult when the future is unknown, the lawyers of Pennsylvania know that there is even greater urgency this year for pro bono services to those in need;
Further, the proclamation states that the commonwealth is a better place when we offer support and resources to those in need, and that Pennsylvania is a leader in celebrating National Pro Bono Week, with annual events at many sites across the Commonwealth.
