CLASP Produces Publication on PA KEYS Program

The Center on Law and Social Policy (CLASP) has produced a publication on the Pennsylvania KEYS program as part of its TANF Education and Training Series. This series highlights specific innovative programs that some states have developed to work within federal rules while providing services that students need to succeed in education and training.

The KEYS program is a partnership between the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare and Pennsylvania’s fourteen community colleges to encourage and assist TANF parents in pursuing community college certificate and degree programs.

The program provides support services and counseling to students pursuing postsecondary education and training at community colleges, while allowing those students up to 24 months (with the possibility of extensions) to complete their degrees and credentials.

In researching the KEYS program, CLASP contacted the Community Justice Project, as well as Marj Dugan, the PA Department of Public Welfare (DPW) KEYS program consultant.

In addition to the publication, CLASP is also featuring the DPW video on the KEYS program, appearing to the right, on the State TANF Policies and Data page of their website.
