Advocacy Exchange: Making Public Benefits Accessible to Clients with Visual Impairments
The Clearinghouse Community, part of the Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law, will be holding the November episode of the Advocacy Exchange webcast, entitled Making Public Benefits Accessible to Clients with Visual Impairments, on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm Eastern. The Advocacy Exchange is a monthly conversation hosted by the Clearinghouse Community with advocates advancing change.
The state and local agencies that handle public benefits send out a lot of important information to people who qualify, apply for, or receive those benefits. But how do people with serious visual impairments get that information? In New York, people received it in a haphazard and insufficient way—until the National Center for Law and Economic Justice sued under the ADA and other laws.
The November episode of the Advocacy Exchange will feature Greg Bass, the senior attorney at the National Center for Law and Economic Justice who brought the New York litigation. That case will be discussed and how it can be a model for advocacy in other states.
