Public Charge & Immigrant Families (Webinar)

Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network, Inc will be hosting an online webinar presentation entitled,  Public Charge & Immigrant Families on Thursday, November 15, 2018 from 1:00 PM–2:00 PM.

On October 10, 2018, the federal Department of Homeland Security proposed new rules expanding the definition of "public charge."  If implemented, the new rules will make it much harder for some immigrants to live lawfully in the U.S. with their families, especially if they have used public benefits in the past.  The proposed rules haven't gone into effect yet, but they are already scaring immigrant families away from benefits programs even though many immigrants are exempt from public charge and have no reason to forgo benefits they are eligible to receive.

In this webinar, we'll discuss who is and who is not subject to public charge and what effects the proposed changes would have if they go into effect.  We'll also discuss how you can fight back against the proposed rules by filing comments before December 10 and encouraging others to do the same.

The presenter will be Maripat Pileggi, Community Legal Services, Inc.

This program has been approved by the Pennsylvania Continuing Legal Education Board for one (1) hours of substantive law, practice and procedure CLE credit.

PLEASE NOTE:  if you are requesting CLE credit for your participation there will be TWO interactive polls that you will have to respond to during the webinar to prove your active participation.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
