In 2024, researchers from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) and the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) analyzed weapons relinquishments in Pennsylvania’s Protection-from-Abuse (PFA) cases. Key findings indicate that while PFA cases rose 13% from 2020 to 2023, requests for weapon relinquishment grew by 44%, and court orders to relinquish weapons by nearly 40%.
