The Community Justice Project is hiring a Bilingual (English and Spanish-speaking) Immigration Habeas Fellow Paralegal to work out of its Pittsburgh, PA office. This posting is for a temporary (one-year), full-time position.

Overview of the Community Justice Project:

The Community Justice Project (“CJP”) is a statewide, unrestricted legal aid program that is part of Pennsylvania’s Legal Aid Network. CJP conducts broad advocacy in all forms and subject areas, which includes civil rights, employment, housing, consumer, immigration, and public benefits work.

Job Description:

CJP recently launched an immigration habeas project to represent clients in habeas petitions in the Western and Middle Districts of Pennsylvania.  Two habeas law fellows will be starting work on this project in September 2026.

CJP is seeking to hire a bilingual (English and Spanish-speaking) paralegal to assist with CJP’s immigration habeas and bond hearing caseload.  The paralegal will assist in conducting intakes, interviewing and interpreting for clients in detention, and gathering documents for clients’ bond hearings under attorney supervision.

This is a one-year, limited duration position.  The position is hybrid, with the ability to work remotely part of the time.  

Job Requirements:

The Bilingual Immigration Habeas Fellow Paralegal must have at least an associate degree and be fully bilingual in English and Spanish.  Strong organizational and communications skills and a commitment to CJP’s low-income client community are also important.  Demonstrated commitment to immigration work is preferred.  Prior paralegal experience is not necessary.

Compensation and Benefits:

The Bilingual Immigration Habeas Fellow Paralegal will be a non-exempt employee.  The starting, entry-level compensation for employees at the Paralegal I level is $18.74/hour, though candidates will be assessed for the possibility of starting at the Paralegal II level. In addition, full time employees are eligible for CJP’s benefits package, including health insurance, dental and vision insurance, retirement contributions, and paid parental leave.
