Department Of Aging: 2022 Benefits And Rights Book For Older Pennsylvanians Now Available In Spanish
Pennsylvania Department of Aging Secretary Robert Torres today announced the release of the Spanish-language version of the 2022 Benefits and Rights for Older Pennsylvanians, the commonwealth's premier guide for information, services and resources that helps to support the needs of older adults.
"The Spanish-language version of this free guide is long overdue, and I am pleased that it is now available to serve Pennsylvania's Latino community. This book is a compilation of state services that will help Latino older adults seek programs that are particular to their needs or interests," said Secretary Torres.
During recent remarks at the Commonwealth's Hispanic Heritage Month celebration, Secretary Torres noted that the growth in the Latino community has accounted for more than 50% of the commonwealth's population growth over the last two decades. He also noted the growth in this community will directly translate to a larger aging Latino population, and it is important they are aware of services and supports that can be available to them as they age.
Some of the topics included in the book are:
- Home and Community-based Services
- Legal Services
- Meal Options
- Prescription Savings
- Protective Services
- Housing Programs
- Free Counseling on Medicare Insurance Options
Individuals can obtain the Spanish version of the 2022 Benefits and Rights book at their county Area Agency on Aging. The book can also be viewed and downloaded online on the department's website or directly at this link.
As the commonwealth's first Latino Secretary of Aging, Secretary Torres has continually advocated for greater effectiveness in outreach and responsiveness in service delivery to diverse communities. This week, he will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award during the 2022 Pennsylvania Latino Convention in Allentown.
