Pennsylvania Loan Repayment Assistance Program Accepting Applications Sept. 1 Through Oct. 16
The Pennsylvania Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP) application period runs Sept. 1 through Oct. 16. LRAP’s focus is to help attorneys employed at civil legal services organizations funded by Pennsylvania Interest on Lawyers Trust Accounts (PA IOLTA) to better manage their undergraduate and law school debt. Attorneys employed at these organizations provide free legal assistance to individuals in Pennsylvania’s underserved communities.
Eligible attorneys should submit their online applications by Oct. 16 at www.paioltagrants.org.
LRAP provides for one-year loans, payable to qualified attorneys quarterly with a 12-month employment requirement at an IOLTA-funded organization. The loan amount is determined by the number of eligible applicants and the amount of available funding. Attorneys who meet the program’s eligibility requirements may apply for up to 10 one-year loans during their tenure in qualified employment. LRAP loans must be used to repay loans incurred for undergraduate and law school educational costs and are forgiven at the end of each year if eligibility requirements have been met.
The program is administered by the Pennsylvania Bar Foundation and the PA IOLTA Board in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.
Since its launch in 2010, PA IOLTA LRAP has awarded more than $5 million to attorneys employed by 36 IOLTA-funded civil legal services organizations throughout Pennsylvania.
