LIHEAP is Now Open – Apply Today for Heat Assistance
The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) opens today, Wednesday, December 3rd!
LIHEAP provides financial assistance to help low income families pay for heating bills during the coldest months of the year.
Pennsylvania residents with income at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Limit may qualify. Additional support may include Emergency Services Program grants (formerly crisis grants) and emergency heating system repairs. Click here to learn more about LIHEAP.
How to Apply:
- Online: COMPASS
- By Phone: 1-866-857-7095
- In Person: Visit your local County Assistance Office
The 2025–2026 LIHEAP season closes Friday, April 10th. Given the one month delay to the start of the program due to the federal shutdown earlier this fall, you should submit your applications as soon as possible to ensure that LIHEAP grants are received in a timely manner.
The Pennsylvania Utility Law Project (PULP) created a helpful resource in English and Spanish to help guide folks through the application process:
The Pennsylvania Utility Law Project also held a LIHEAP Program Review 2025-2026 webinar on October 31, 2025. The recording, slides, and resources from that webinar are available from PULP. Simply fill out the form on PULP’s website page to receive these materials.
