Chief Justice Debra Todd Recognizes Pro Bono Service During the National Celebration of Pro Bono
Chief Justice Debra Todd directed a letter to all Pennsylvania lawyers, joining with Pennsylvania Bar Association President Kristen Hamilton in recognizing attorneys across our Commonwealth for their pro bono service.
The Chief Justice stated that pro bono service is a professional responsibility and an individual ethical
commitment of each lawyer. Every October, legal organizations across America participate in the National Celebration of Pro Bono to draw attention to the need for pro bono participation, and to thank those who give their time year round. Since its inception in 2009, the Pennsylvania Celebration of Pro Bono has grown to cover the entire month of October.
She recognized that the Pennsylvania Bar Association, local bar associations, and legal aid programs sponsor events throughout this month to celebrate Pennsylvania lawyers' past service and to provide further opportunities to assist those in need.
The Chief Justice concluded by saying she hopes all will join her in recognizing Pennsylvania attorneys, judges, law students and legal support staff working to help the less fortunate among us achieve access to justice, and if you haven't already done so, please consider volunteering yourself. It's the right thing to do.
