Fair Housing Intake Coordinator - Fair Housing Law Center (Summit Legal Aid)

Summit Legal Aid is a non-profit organization that provides free legal services to low-income and other vulnerable residents, including victims of housing discrimination, in western Pennsylvania.  Our mission is to provide civil justice to vulnerable people in need of legal help, and our Fair Housing Law Center enforces individuals’ rights under the Fair Housing Act. We are currently seeking a Fair Housing Intake Coordinator.
 

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Fair Housing Intake Coordinator conducts fair housing intakes, investigates allegations, gathers evidence, and participates in community networking. The Fair Housing Intake Coordinator reports directly to the Managing Attorney of the Fair Housing Law Center. The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting fair housing intakes and investigations, including gathering all relevant evidence and logging all relevant information;
  • Assisting in conducting testing investigations, when necessary;
  • Participating in fair housing networking; and
  • Maintaining complete and accurate records of all activities related to various job duties and assignments.
     

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to interact effectively with clients in a trauma-informed manner;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Ability to work independently and with team members, community agencies, and community members;
  • Skill in the use of computer applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Outlook, SharePoint, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel;
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn about fair housing protections as well as other federal, state, and local housing laws; and
  • Most importantly, dedication to furthering civil rights, especially fair housing protections.
     

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Some travel may be necessary in conjunction with networking and/or other investigative activities.
 

COMPENSATION

The starting salary will be at least $38,000 and will depend on experience.  Health, dental, and vision coverage is available for all full-time employees and eligible dependents.  A life insurance plan is provided for each full-time employee, paid entirely by Summit Legal Aid.  A voluntary 403(b) retirement contribution is available, including up to 8% employer contribution, after one year of employment.
