CLS Executive Director Cathy Carr chosen as recipient of the Philadelphia Bar Foundation Award
The Philadelphia Bar Foundation has chosen Community Legal Services' Executive Director, Catherine C. Carr, as the 2009 recipient of the Philadelphia Bar Foundation Award. Created in remembrance of Louis D. Apothaker, a renowned Philadelphia attorney and past President of the Foundation, the award recognizes excellent leadership in the legal services community.
Serving as Executive Director of CLS for fourteen years, Carr has led the prominent legal services provider through several organizational transitions, all the while continuing to provide high-quality legal assistance to Philadelphia's most vulnerable residents. Under Carr's leadership, CLS has embarked on many new initiatives, which include expanding language access advocacy, adding a community economic development unit, and reintegrating social workers into units for the first time since the 1970s.
Carr will accept the award at the Philadelphia Bar Foundation's Andrew Hamilton Benefit on November 21, 2009.
