Victim Advocate Immigration Paralegal - Community Justice Project, Northeast
The Community Justice Project (CJP) is hiring a Victim Advocate Immigration Paralegal to work out of its Scranton office. This posting is for a full-time position.
CJP is a statewide legal aid program that is part of Pennsylvania’s Legal Aid Network, but it does not receive Legal Services Corporation funding. CJP conducts broad advocacy in all forms and subject areas, which include civil rights, employment, housing, community development, consumer, immigration, immigrant rights, and public benefits. An important part of CJP’s work involves outreach to immigrant communities from offices in Reading, Scranton, Hazleton, Harrisburg, and Pittsburgh.
The Victim Advocate Immigration Paralegal will report to and support the Supervising Immigration Attorney, who is located in Harrisburg, in serving low-income immigrant clients in Luzerne, Lackawanna, Schuylkill, Juniata, and Mifflin Counties.
The responsibilities of the immigration paralegal include:
- Under the supervision of the immigration attorney, working with immigrant victims of crime, domestic violence, and human trafficking to provide trauma-informed services and assistance with VAWA petitions, U-Visa, T-visa, and related applications;
- Identifying and collaborating with local victim service providers in the counties served on immigration matters, and managing referrals to CJP;
- Engaging in community outreach and education in the counties served.
The paralegal must be fully bilingual in English and Spanish and must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communications skills. A demonstrated commitment to the low-income client community is also essential. Immigration legal service experience is preferred, but we are willing to train the right candidate.
Applicants should send a letter, resume, and writing sample to Peter Zurflieh, Community Justice Project, 118 Locust Street, Harrisburg, PA. 17101. firstname.lastname@example.org. 800-322-7572 ext. 210. The Community Justice Project is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
