Immigration Attorney - Community Justice Project, Reading

Community Justice Project logo

The Community Justice Project (CJP) seeks an immigration attorney or managing immigration attorney, depending on experience. We would prefer for the attorney to work out of CJP’s Reading, Pennsylvania office at least one day per week, but remote options are a possibility.

CJP is a statewide legal aid program that is part of Pennsylvania’s Legal Aid Network, but it does not receive Legal Services Corporation funding. It specializes in class action and other litigation and advocacy that impacts Pennsylvania’s low-income residents. CJP conducts broad advocacy in all forms and subject areas, which include civil rights, employment, housing, community development, consumer, immigration, immigrant rights, and public benefits. CJP works with local legal aid programs across the state, but it also does its own community outreach from offices in Reading, Hazleton, Scranton, Harrisburg, and Pittsburgh.

CJP has an opening for an immigration attorney, or, for more experienced applicants, a managing immigration attorney, to serve clients in Berks County and southeastern PA. The attorney will be responsible for providing immigration legal services and holistic legal services to immigrant victims of crime, domestic violence, and trafficking in U-Visa, T-Visa, and Violence Against Women Act petitions, as well as applicants for other forms of immigration relief.  Depending on the applicant’s level of experience, the immigration attorney may report to CJP’s supervising immigration attorney or may be eligible to serve as the managing immigration attorney.

The position also involves working closely with immigrant communities and groups in the areas served. The attorney will identify and collaborate with local social and legal services providers in Berks County and southeastern PA and will participate in outreach events aimed at providing information on potential forms of immigration relief and on holistic legal services that CJP provides.

The attorney must be fully bilingual in English and Spanish and must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communications skills. A demonstrated commitment to the low-income client community is also essential. Immigration legal services experience is preferred but not required. 3Ls will be considered.

Applicants should send a cover letter, resume, law school transcript, and writing sample to Marielle Macher at mmacher@cjplaw.org.

Salary is commensurate with experience.

The Community Justice Project is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
