Development & Communications Associate – Legal Aid of Southeastern PA, Norristown

Legal Aid of Southeastern Pennsylvania (“LASP”) is seeking a full-time Development & Communications Associate to play a key role on its fundraising and communications teams. The Associate will work in areas including individual and institutional giving, donor communication, and LASP internal and external communications.

LASP provides free civil legal services to persons with limited incomes and also serves older adults, Veterans, and those needing protection from domestic violence. LASP cases focus on fundamental human needs in housing, family law, and income support and public benefits. LASP also provides fresh starts for those facing obstacles to decent housing and employment due to expungable criminal records or debt. LASP serves suburban Philadelphia including Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties.

The Development and Communications Associate position is based in Norristown. Staff currently work on a hybrid basis. The successful candidate will be expected to perform in-office work and work remotely as needed.


Individual and Institutional Fundraising 

  1. Participate in all facets of LASP’s individual giving program, including developing strategy, creating appeals, and monitoring ROI. Play a core role in strengthening donor stewardship. 
  2. Coordinate donor recognition and identify new opportunities.  
  3. Collaborate with senior staff and LASP’s Board of Directors in developing major gift solicitation strategies.
  4. Support the Development Director to produce grant proposals, including drafting narratives and collating attachments.
  5. Use LASP’s donor database to create reports, mailing lists, donor profiles and other materials.
  6. Conduct research on foundation, government, and other institutional funding sources.


  1. Create content for the website, social media, e-newsletters, annual report, and other LASP communications.
  2. Develop promotional materials and flyers for outreach events, in collaboration with LASP staff and community partners.
  3. Attend outreach and other events to represent LASP and take photos for e-news and/or social media.


  1. Contribute to initiatives that will enhance and advance LASP’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  2. Reflect LASP policies and values in all professional practice.
  3. Abide by all applicable professional standards of ethics and practice. 
  4. Other duties as assigned.


The position is supervised by the Development Director. The Associate works closely with both the Development Director and the Communications Director.


  1. Two or more years of development and/or communications experience. Demonstrated interest in supporting nonprofit organizations and/or legal justice work.
  2. Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  3. Highly organized with attention to detail.
  4. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  5. Self-motivated with the ability to meet deadlines.
  6. Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and/or LinkedIn). Knowledge of Constant Contact, Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, and/or fundraising databases is helpful. Video and/or website skills a plus.
  7. Insight into issues affecting LASP clients that may be based on prior employment, volunteer activities, or personal experience. 
  8. Sensitivity to the issues and needs of LASP clients.
  9. Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of LASP stakeholders, including staff, Board of Directors, donors, community partners and clients.


Depending on experience and qualifications, a minimum of $45,000
