Public Charge: How a Client's Public Benefits Might Affect Their Immigration Case (Webinar)

Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network, Inc. is offering a webinar entitled, Public Charge: Responding to Questions About how a Client's Public Benefits Receipt Might Affect Their Immigration Case  on Thursday, October 17, 2019 from 1:00 PM–2:00 PM

The presenter will be Maripat Pileggi, who is an attorney in the public benefits unit at CLS.

In August, the Department of Homeland Security published new regulations redefining the term “public charge.”  These new rules will put more people at risk of being deemed a “public charge,” which will make it harder for many people in the U.S. to get green cards and visas.

Many immigrants are afraid that their receipt of public benefits might make them a public charge and negatively affect their immigration case.  But, the very large majority of immigrants who are eligible to receive public benefits can continue to safely receive public benefits without any public charge risk at all.

Advocates will play a key role in making sure immigrant clients have good information about this confusing topic so they can make good decisions about whether to enroll in public benefits programs.  Join this webinar to learn more.
